What is Success?

What is Success?
What is the definition of Success?
How do you measure success?
What is in a successful person?

I was wondering of the word success and looked into the dictionary (Oxford Dictionary; 7th Edition) and it is defined as:
1. the fact that you have achieved something that you want and have been trying to do or get; the fact of becoming rich or famous or of getting a high social position.
2. a person or thing that has achieved a good result and has been successful.

Then I search also for the word successful and found the following as the meaning:
1. achieving your aims or what is intended
2. having become popular and/or made a lot of money

Then I realized that success is mostly defined in terms of your possession, money and social position as well as result and these are all about material and quantitative measures. But why? How about other contributions? Emotional aspect? Isn't it an important part as well? Or is it because it is not able to be measured?

How could the world not turned into a world which demands for status, money and possession if they are already indirectly taught in school the meaning of success in such a way?
Where is humanities in this concept? Does this mean that if not earning lots of money, not having good results, not in high social position and or not becoming popular is not successful?

Is this the teaching that we will bring along to the younger generations and forever?
Disappointed by the fact of life in this manner.
